Without going into too much detail, CANBUS when referring to HID Kit lighting, basically refers to vehicle systems that monitor the vehicles bulb socket connection usually using a resistance based measurement or some other type of feedback from the bulb to the vehicles computer or vehicles CAN-bus system. It allows the vehicle to know if there is a halogen bulb connected to the factory connector in good operating condition. If anything else is connected to this connector that does not resemble the same specs of a halogen bulb then it will give error messages inside the dash to the driver. Sometimes not only error messages on the dash will display but erratic voltage patterns will be sent to the connector thus flickering or flashing the HID kit. Easiest way to fix this is to trick the canbus computer into thinking that there is a halogen bulb installed without actually installing a halogen bulb. HID Kit manufacturers offer many fixes for this.
